Howling Bells / Cities Burning Down e Golden Web

Existem aqueles que são nostálgicos. Que têm “saudades de algo, de um estado, de uma forma de existência que se deixou de ter”. Que sentem “desejo de voltar ao passado” (já o diz o Dicionário Houaiss da Língua Portuguesa). Existem, por outro lado, os que perpetuam-se no consumo da novidade, que estão sempre à espera do virar da esquina. Que são homens ou mulheres que vivem para ser surpreendidos.

Eu inclino-me, sem cair por completo, um pouco mais para o segundo. Gosto de ser surpreendido, gosto de sentir o cheiro a novidade, gosto de pensar que o que estou a ler, ouvir ou ver é uma nova iteração da realidade, um novo passo, não necessariamente em frente, já que tantos passos são o repensar de antigas filosofias (NOTA – a este respeito vejam o grande filme “Gran Torino” de Clint Eastwood).

Nas duas últimas semanas e graças às boas graças (e conselhos) de alguns amigos, descobri novas músicas, novos paladares auditivos, que quero partilhar aqui e agora.

There are those that are nostalgic. Those that miss something, a state of mind, a shape of existence that they no longer have. That have the desire to turn back the clock. There are those, however, that perpetuate themselves in eating up whatever is new, that are always waiting for the turning of the page. These are men and women that crave to be surprised.

I myself tend to the latter rather than the former, but without fully embracing it. I love to be surprised, I like to feel the smell of the new, I like to think that what I’m reading, or listening or viewing is a new iteration of reality, a new step, not necessarily forward, since so many steps are nothing more than the retreading of old paths (NOTE – Speaking of this, go see the magnificent movie “Gran Torino” by Clint Eastwood).

In the last two weeks thanks to the graces (and advises) of some friends, I discovered new music, new sound flavors, that I want to share with you here and now.

Let’s start with my most recent favorites, the Howling Bells with their second album “Radio wars”. I leave you with “Cities Burning Down” and a live version of “Golden Web”.
